jon&meliss

Jon and Melis came the beginning of October and were the best guests. Nothing like having someone visit you on their first trip abroad. Their excitement is contagious! They were here for a little over a week, with an extended trip in the middle to Edinburgh Scotland which they said is a must see.

Joe was off for most of their visit. In addition to a day trip to Canterbury, they toured several museums on a quest for the Rosetta Stone, rode the London Eye, saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, shopped at Harrods, attended mass at Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London. I was able to join them for a day trip to Greenwich by boat down the Thames. Jon took a liking to the pubs and the beer and seemed right at home.

The highlight of the trip though belonged to Meliss who met her friend Cathy whom she last saw at Cathy's wedding in Wyoming more than 20 years before. It was quite hard to pull them apart once they saw each other again. Cathy and her husband Ian live in the Cotswalds - Joe and I are looking forward to their open invitation to visit and do some hiking and touring.

londonliving

Just so you know, we do live and work in London. We joined the Tate Museums and I went to see the Dali exhibit three times before it left so I could sit through all the films. Before the days got really really short, strolling the Thames from St. George's Wharf to the Tate and back was an almost daily event.

I also really enjoy hitting Borough Market on Fridays. Though it pains me to say it, it really does outshine Eastern Market by leaps and bounds. From the guy who only sells Parmesean Reggiano to the olive people, the various bread folks and of course the truffle guy, it's an amazing place to just to visit, forget the shopping!
